What is your current position? What is your area of focus?
My current position is Senior Plumbing Designer at 3C Engineering located in San Luis Obispo, CA. My areas of focus regarding project types would be the following: Commercial, Mixed Use, State Parks, Education (from K-12 all the way through higher education). My areas of focus in design would be code compliance and regulation, sustainable design, specifications, as well as assisting manufacturers with developing new ideas for our ever changing world.

What are your career journey highlights?

  • Passing the CPD
  • Becoming a Senior Plumbing Designer
  • Racing BMW's while on the T&S Brass factory tour
  • Spending a week in Boston while touring the many Watts facilities.
  • Meeting amazing people that I can learn and grow from - whether it be a day one employee, or a seasoned veteran in the plumbing design world.

What motivated you to get into the plumbing engineering industry?
I started in the plumbing industry as a teenager working weekends with my dad's best friend that was teaching me how to install plumbing for his plumbing conditioning company, located in Paso Robles. Once I realized I liked the industry, which happened pretty quickly, I was finally presented the opportunity to join the engineering world and jumped all over it.

What is the most exciting or rewarding aspect of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is giving back to both my local community and the entire state by working on projects that enhance the safety, security, and well-being of the population. I take pride in contributing my expertise to projects such as police stations, fire stations, educational facilities, and the numerous California State Parks projects that many can enjoy.

What value have you gained from participation in ASPE Connect?
What I feel I have gained the most from joining ASPE is the encouragement to push my career forward. I am an individual that has never stepped a foot inside a college classroom and I take pride that I have made it this far without any paper credentials other than what ASPE has provided me. I also thoroughly enjoy the valuable information I have gained from differing perspectives all over the country (mostly what I pay attention to), from all different code interpretations.

What is the most interesting plumbing design challenge you have encountered?
I think the most interesting design challenge I have encountered thus far would have to be when I designed a 62 acre indoor grow facility for produce, located here on the Central Coast of California. By far the largest project, spatially, that I have ever worked on with a ton of large equipment items that I have yet to specify again.

What is your favorite hobby or pastime outside of work?
I love to play billiards and disc golf when I am looking for something to do with friends and family. Otherwise my favorite thing to do is spend my off time with my children.
