What is your current position? What is your area of focus?
I am a plumbing Engineer at CMTA in Richmond, VA. I primarily focus on K-12 and Healthcare design.
What are your career journey highlights?
- I went to culinary school and worked in kitchens for 10 years before switching it up and going to Virginia Commonwealth University for Mechanical Engineering.
- I've been in the industry for about 3 years now, so I'm still pretty green, but love learning and collaborating across disciplines.
What motivated you to get into the plumbing engineering industry?
I wanted to work for CMTA, and they had the position open, so plumbing design fell into my lap, and I've run with it.
What is the most exciting or rewarding aspect of your work?
Seeing a job go from design to full completion. The final punch of a project I've been working on is so satisfying to see. Seeing a project on a computer screen and drawings being fully constructed brings a lot of satisfaction.
What value have you gained from participation in ASPE Connect?
The ASPE Connect network has kept me privy of a variety of topics, both related and unrelated to my areas of focus. It is also nice to see how many different ways a topic can be discussed/designed.
What is the most interesting plumbing design challenge you have encountered?
Helping to design a 250,000 USG underground cistern to collect rainwater in St. Croix for a PreK-8 campus. The filtration system for the campus was a big learning curve as well.
What is your favorite hobby or pastime outside of work?
I do woodworking and love to ski, bike, hike and try to spend as much time outdoors with my wife and daughter as possible.
