What is your current position? What is your area of focus?
Plumbing Inspection Supervisor for the City of Columbus, Ohio

What are your career journey highlights?

  1. Serving on three separate ICC IPC Code Action Hearing Committees.
  2. Obtaining my ASPE CPD certification.
  3. Being elected President of the Ohio Association of Plumbing Inspectors.
  4. Having two separate articles published in trade publications.

What motivated you to get into the plumbing engineering industry?
I took quite a twisted path to get where I am today. I started out working as a mechanic on semi-trucks then cars before my father-in-law encouraged me to apply to get into a plumbing apprenticeship program. I never really thought about becoming a plumber until that point but I was definitely looking for a career that would allow me to support my family. Having a mechanical background, I took to plumbing like a duck in water, the rest as they say is history...

What is the most exciting or rewarding aspect of your work?
Everyday I get to educate and help people in dealing with the technical aspects of the plumbing code and building safety in general.

What value have you gained from participation in ASPE Connect?
ASPE Connect has provided another opportunity for me to not only network with other industry professionals, but it has also given me a place to learn and educate as well.

What has been your most interesting plumbing design challenge?
I don't know that I have a single design challenge I could point to, they all have their own quirks. From my perspective though, the most challenging designs are always renovations. Building something completely new will always be easier, or at least should always be easier than working within a space that already has much of the space intended for mechanical systems used up. Working as a plumber I enjoyed working on these projects the most because they offered the biggest challenges, every job seemed like they were trying to fit 10 gallons into a 5 gallon bucket. The challenge wasn't getting things to fit, it was getting things to fit, function properly, and look good at the same time. But that, my friends, is the definition of a "CRAFTSMAN", which sadly is something we see less and less of everyday.

What is your favorite hobby or pastime outside of work?
Just spending time with my family.
