What is your current position? What are your areas of focus?

I am a mechanical design engineer. I successfully passed the FE exam but have not yet taken the PE exam for licensure. I am thinking of making plumbing my area of focus.

What are your career journey highlights?

  • Energy Modeling (using Trane Trace)
  • Industrial plant design and general commercial design
  • Some interesting renovation projects such as an old opera house
  • Experienced Revit user (with some working knowledge of AutoCAD)
  • Plumbing sanitary and venting design, storm drain system design, domestic water system design, basics of natural gas system design, HVAC design (air side and water side)

What first got you interested in the plumbing engineering field?

I've been working in mechanical design for almost 10 years and I feel drawn to plumbing. When I was a kid, I was fascinated by pipes in buildings and wondered how it all worked.

What are the most exciting or rewarding aspects of your work?

It's never boring.  Always something new to explore.  I think it's fun to design plumbing systems.

What value have you gained from participating in ASPE Connect?

I'm a new member, so not much yet, but I have asked a couple of questions and got responses.

What is one of the most interesting plumbing design challenges you have encountered?

This question is tough! I guess it was an interesting challenge to figure out plumbing venting in areas where there's no space to run vertical piping and I had to learn combination waste and vent.

What is your favorite hobby or pastime outside of work?
So many hobbies to choose from, but I love studying the sciences of alternative medicine- especially Homeopathy and German New Medicine.  I also love writing science fiction fantasy novels and also creating my own invented board/card games.

Be sure to connect with @Andrew Grajek and say hello!
